William Booth: Rescuing all sinners
When William and Catherine Booth founded the Salvation Army in 1865, they set strong standards. Their people would be holy and unafraid to suffer for Christ’s sake. They would go for God, regardless of the cost and humiliation.
Most Christians I know make excuses for not speaking publicly about Christ, but not the Salvation Army. For more than a century they have been subjected to ridicule and persecution, but are so dedicated to rescuing sinners in His name that now the world comes to their door.
When God gives you a passion for souls, the church becomes a sending station instead of a resort location. Pastors no longer boast about how many people come to church on a Sunday morning but how many are sent out to spread the light of hope.
If the Church can change into the likeness of Jesus and fulfill the purpose of our creation, everything we do will function more like heaven on earth. Wherever we go we will take the light of hope that burns inside.
